Exciting times with Grey Area

A little bit over two years ago three guys came talk to me after I’d been speaking in a panel at one of the first Arctic Evening events. This trio was working at Ericsson but they were planning to start their own company.

We met some time after the event again and I promised to help them on their journey - to give them that kind of help, advice and support which I’d loved to got back in 2001, when I was starting my first company.

The past two years as Grey Area’s Advisor have been exciting and inspiring. At the moment we’re living extremely intriguing times: yesterday the company launched its MMORPG iPhone app in the Finnish AppStore and it went straight to #1 on both Free Apps and Grossing Apps top lists! Today we came out with some other great news: Ville Vesterinen, Co-Founder of Artic Startup, has joined Grey Area as the company’s new CEO.

I’m really happy to see this startup and its founders at this stage. It’s been and it still is a great pleasure to work with you, Mikko, Andreas, Teemu and Ville!

I’m sure the world will hear a lot more about this fabulous quartet in the future.

I updated my LinkedIn profile yesterday and got some congratulation messages after that. Thank you for those :) but I guess it’s better to point out: I haven’t changed my job. The new Managing Director role is just a rather formal position related to our company (AlmaMedia/Iltalehti) becoming a majority shareholder in Kotikokki net Oy.

Invested in Heiaheia.com

Just a quick “disclaimer”. I used to tout about the social training log service HeiaHeia cause I’m an active runner and I really like the service. But nowadays I’m also a minority shareholder in Mooze Ltd. (the company behind the HeiaHeia service) after I made a tiny private investment in the company.

So beware, I’ll keep on fetching my exercise entries from HeiaHeia to Facebook. :)

Aika isoja askelia otettu Iltalehti.fi:ssä tällä viikolla. Aloitimme järjestelmällisen linkkauksen lähteisiin (kun lähde on muualla verkossa), siirryimme suurempaan sivuleveyteen ja jätimme (todennäköisesti ensimmäisenä suurena suomalaisena verkkosivustona) IE6-tuen pois.

Lähteiden kanssa voi toki alussa olla toimittajakohtaisia unohduksia, sivuleveydessä on omat haasteensa (ja uudistuksemme oli muutoin varovainen, Iltalehti.fi pysyi edelleen monella tapaa “Iltalehti.fi:mäisenä”), mutta näkisin että tässä viikossa oli kuitenkin aika paljon hyvää ihan näin koko suomalaista verkkokehityskulttuuria ajatellen.
